Camping Tour Detailed Information

The itinerary of each tour varies as the guides adapt the tour to provide the best experience for you.  This is roughly what to expect.

Day 1- To The Mountains!
We pick you up from your downtown Calgary hotel between 3 and 4 pm and head 2.5 hours into the mountains, set up camp and talk about the days to come around a campfire

Day 2- Land of Ice and Rock
Spend the first full day of your camping tour in the Rockies exploring the infamous Icefields Parkway as we head up for a hike with a bird’s eye view of the Columbia Icefields.

  • Typical hike: Wilcox Pass (10 km, 400 m elevation)

Day 3- Into The Wild!
Spend the day exploring a secret mountain range in the Rockies that’s too secret to name on here. Go for a guided hike far above a gorgeous lake, or to a set of glacial waterfalls.

  • Typical hike: Secret hike (14 km, 600 m elevation)

Day 4- Pioneers & Swiss Mountaineers
Follow the footsteps of the Swiss mountaineers to historic alpine teahouses and explore the most beautiful parts of Lake Louise most people have no idea even exist!

  • Typical hike: Plain of Six Glaciers (14 km, 500 m elevation

Day 5- In Awe In Yoho
Yoho is a Cree word meaning “Awe”. Today you will find out why on a trip up the Yoho Valley where you’ll come face to face with one of Canada’s tallest waterfalls, and hike right next to a glacier!

  • Typical hike: Iceline Trail (12 km, 500 m elevation)

Day 6- Kicked By The Horse!
Some kick the horse and some get kicked. We will see which group you you’re part of on a fun filled float down the mightiest river in the Rockies!

  • Rafting on the Kicking Hose River (optional activity). (Or guided hike instead)

Day 7- Last But Not Lost!
On the last day of your guided camping trip in the Rockies we head back through Banff for a quick rejuvenating soak in the hot springs or a stroll up a dramatic canyon complete with ancient pictographs.

    • Drop off: Calgary airport or hotels @ 2 pm

Six nights camping accommodation in quality tents with compfrtable inflating sleeping pads.   You can book double occupancy and share a tent or upgrade to a single tent.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have camping experience?

Absolutely not!  You can be a first timer, petrified of squirrels and have never set foot outside before.  Professional guides are there to show you the way and make sure this is an enjoyable experience for you!

Do I need to carry all my gear in a heavy pack?

Nope!  All your luggage will be transported in a trailer.  You won’t have to carry a heavy pack and can bring your luggage in a suitcase, duffel bag or backpack.  You will only need a small day pack while on daily hikes for personal belongings like sunscreen, water etc. 

How fit do I need to be?

This camping tour has a focus on daily guided hikes, which means you should have a reasonable level of fitness.  Expect to hike 10-16 km per day, with 200-1000 meters elevation gain.  Typically these are 3-5 hour hikes, that we do over 5-7 hours.  If you can walk at a good pace for 2+ hours, you should be totally fine. 

Is camping equipment included?

Your camping tour includes use of a quality tent and sleeping pad.  You can either bring your own sleeping bag, or opt to rent one for $50 from Fresh Adventures.  

Can my diet be accommodated for?

Fresh Adventures are experts at cooking in the wild and can whip up an amazing menu to accommodate your dietary restrictions.  They can handle gluten free, dairy free, vegan, vegetarian and more.  Just let them know before the tour and they will make sure to adapt the menu for you.
